Charitable Work
St. Vincent de Paul Society
The St. Vincent de Paul Society was established in England and Wales in 1844 from its root in Paris some 11 years earlier. It has been committed for over 160 years to provide friendship and practical assistance to those in need.
Membership is open to Christian men and women who wish to live their Faith by serving and caring for their neighbour in need.
The St. Pancras Conference was established in Lewes in 1958 and has been serving the local community in many ways throughout this period.
Our group (Conference) meets every week, on a Wednesday, to pray, reflect on our Faith and report on the week’s activities.
This may include:
•Making a visit to someone who is lonely or housebound
•Helping with transport to Mass or Services
•Giving small financial help to individuals or families
•Helping with the Brighton Soup Run
•Supporting a furniture store
•Assisting vagrants and travellers
The SVP motto is “Turning Concern into Action” so our work can be as varied as the situations which present themselves.
Ways for you to become involved:
•Become a full or auxiliary Member of the Conference
•Join the Friends of the SVP
•Pray for our work
•Tell us of those in need of our attention

Heavenly Father, Lord and Ruler of all, You called and prepared Pancras to witness your sovereignty, even to the extent of undergoing torture and laying down his life rather than deny that You alone are God.
Grant us always to honour You above all, remaining to the end of our lives faithful followers of your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, Who lives with You and the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever
Amen
